Evelyn Amos Petty
A memorial service for Evelyn Amos Petty, 87, will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 16, the chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Dr. Jim Lewis of First Christian Church will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the Memorial Service. Interment will be at the Hopewell Cemetery in Latch, Texas at a later date.
Mrs. Petty passed away August 13 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 18, 1920 in Gilmer, Texas to Charity and Newie Amos. She was married to T.J. Petty for 50 years and they had three children. She Retired from Longview ISD after teaching elementary school for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. Her family and friends loved her greatly and appreciated her quick wit and humorous side.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Glenn ?Bubba? Amos and N.L. ?Mutt? Amos of Longview, her brother L.O. ?Toad? Amos and her sister Alice Hurt of Gilmer.
She will be deeply missed by her surviving family members who include daughters and sons-in-law Phyllis and Dr. Charles Hendrick of Amarillo, and Traci and Dr. Keith Owings of Longview; and son and daughter-in-law Don and Judy Petty of Longview. Other survivors include her seven grandchildren Charles Hendrick and his wife Linda of Amarillo, Dr. Eric Hendrick and his wife Amy of San Antonio, Amos, Charity, and Elijah Owings of Longview, Scott Norman and his wife Monique of
Austin, and Leslie Petty of Longview. Also surviving are her three great grandchildren Katie Hendrick of San Antonio and Jack and Ben Norman of Austin. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
The family wants to extend their grateful thanks and appreciation for the staffs of Buckner Assisted Living and the Physical Therapy unit of Summer Meadows.
