Eva Jonette Johnson's Obituary
Eva Jonette Johnson passed peacefully in her sleep on March 5, 2015, in Longview, TX. She was 85 years old.
Jonette was born on March 18, 1929, to her parents Taylor and Lucy Oldham. Jonette graduated with honors from the University of North Texas where she would eventually earn a master’s degree in education. After graduation, she took a job teaching at Marshall ISD where she met and later married a young coach named Hardy Johnson.
Jonette and Hardy eventually moved to Longview where Jonette, who was known by her students as Mrs. E.J., taught seventh grade English at Judson Middle School for more than thirty years. She retired in 1995 and devoted her time to her family, especially her three grandchildren.
Jonette was a patient and supportive teacher with a kind heart and a passion for reading and language arts. She spent her life in service to others and for all who knew her she gave the extraordinary gift of unconditional love. A proud member of the First United Methodist Church of Longview, Jonette had a gentle and selfless character that was epitomized by her faith in the Lord and love for helping those around her.
Jonette is survived by her husband, Hardy O’Neal Johnson; her daughters Janie Johnson and Lea Cooper and her husband Nathan; her grandchildren, Hardy Elkins, Will Elkins and Carrie Foster; and her great-granddaughter Kinlee Clark. Jonette was preceded in death by her sister Katy Metcalfe.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jonette is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday March 9, 2015, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview with Pastor Roy James officiating.
