Eva Jean Blount's Obituary
Eva Jean Finch Blount, member of a pioneering family and longtime resident of Longview, died September 13, 2017. Following a private family burial, a memorial service is scheduled for 2:00pm Saturday the 16th in the Sanctuary of First Christian Church 720 N. 6th St. with Rev. Richard Emerson officiating. The family will greet friends, in the parlor following the service.
Mrs. Blount was born, July 28, 1927 in Ft. Worth, the daughter of John Markham Finch and Myradell Howard. She was the granddaughter of the
Reverend Macon Louama Howard & Eva Sarah Howard, and John Landrum Finch & Eugenia Althea Finch.
She graduated from Longview High School in 1944 and the University of Texas in 1948 with a B.S. degree. There she was honored to be named to Mortar Board, elected as a Justice of the Student Court and served the Tri Delta Sorority, as President her junior year. In 1970 she received her M.Ed. degree from Stephen F. Austin.
For three years, Mrs. Blount served First Christian Church Pre-School as Director and
Teacher, continuing her teaching career with Judson Elementary First Grade, the following three years.
In 1947 she married Ralph Eugene Peppy Blount, a student athlete at the University of Texas, who served Big Spring, Howard County, Texas as their State Representative in the Texas Legislature during their undergraduate days.
He later served as judge of Gregg County and was a practicing attorney in Longview for over 50 years. They were blessed to enjoy 63 years together.
Mrs. Blount was a volunteer with the Literary Council, served the Junior League of Longview and Shakespeare Club as President. She also enjoyed the Junior Literary Club and the Green Thumb and the Garden Club.
She was honored to serve a number of terms on the board of Juliette Fowler Homes in Dallas, a benevolent arm of the Disciples of Christ. She was named an Elder for Life at First Christian Church for her years of serving as a Sunday School teacher and work on numerous committees.
She is survived by her three sons:
Ralph Finch Blount, Dallas, John Eugene (Jeb) Blount, and his wife, Lyn, Longview, Stephen Howard Blount and his wife, Linda, San Antonio and eight wonderful grandchildren, Robert Mathis Blount and his wife, Mandy and daughter Blakely Lauren, Dallas, Allison Finch Blount, Houston, Kathryn Dell Blount Garza and her husband Severiano Adame Garza, Austin, John Reid Blount, Austin, Jane Anne Blount, Austin, Robert Rowland Blount and his wife, Sage, San Antonio and twins, Charlotte McHenry Blount, New York, Macon Howard Blount, Dallas.
