Esther Lavenia Watkins' Obituary
Graveside services for Esther L. "Vennie" Watkins, 84, of Tillatoba, Mississippi will be 1 PM Monday at Rosewood Park with Rev. Leon Gregory officiating under direction of Rader Funeral Home. Mrs. Watkins died Friday, April 22, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
She was born December 10, 1926 in Hollandale, Mississippi. She was a nurse for 56 years. A devoted Christian she was a cornerstone of her Church of God in Charleston, Mississippi. She was instrumental in the founding of the Veterans Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi, where she retired at the age of 80. She had also been Director of Nurses in Charleston, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles B. Johnson and Esther Johnson Sanderson; daughter, Kimberly Brown; step dad, Byron Sanderson; brother, Byron Sanderson, Jr.; sisters, Barbara Long and Walterrene Gho;
She is survived by her grandchildren, Dylan Brown, Dustin Brown and Colton Brown. And a great grandchild, Caden Brown. And her sisters, Beverly Crosby of Jefferson and Blanche Miller of Longview.
Memorials may be made to the Church of God in Charleston, Mississippi or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
