Estelle Hughes
Estelle Hughes, 88, of Kilgore formerly of Longview passed away on Thursday November 17, 2009 at GSMC on Hospice. She was one of eleven children born to George and Ethel Brown Sullivan in Miller County, Arkansas. She married Ira Hughes October 27, 1937 in Doddridge, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 1987, as well as nine brothers. She was retired as a hairdresser, a member of the Bright Star Chapter # 632 of Eastern Star, Doddridge, Arkansas. She was a member of First Baptist Church Kilgore and a longtime past member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church Longview.
?Estelle was a fervent prayer warrior, and she prayed daily for the women of the land to be strong and faithful to God. She often said ?If the women stand strong and tall, the men will not fall.?
Survivors include her children, Libby and George Hogue of Kilgore, Sheila and Tom Crone of Sherman, Carolyn and Jim Toland of Sherman, Iris and Jesse Guinn of Conroe, and two step-children, Maxine and Tommy, nine grandchildren, many step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, many step great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, her sister Betty Sullivan Wood, of Rodessa, Louisiana, survives her as well as six sister-in-laws, seventeen nephews, and thirteen nieces.
Funeral services will be held at Ten O?clock am Friday November 20, 2009 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Bright and Reverend Eddie Hilburn officiating. Graveside services will be held at Three O?clock pm Friday at Enon Cemetery in Doddridge, Arkansas under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday November 19, 2009 from 6-8pm.
