Ernie Younger's Obituary
Ernie Younger left his earthly home peacefully, February 11, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson, which he fought with a resilient, courageous, and determined spirit to the very end before joining his heavenly father, Jesus Christ.
Ernie was born on April 13, 1945, in Longview, Tx. to Earnest Harket Younger and Alice King Younger. He grew up in Longview, Tx, graduating from Spring Hill School in 1964. He briefly attended Kilgore College and then was employed for thirty-three years at Stroh’s Brewery in Longview, Tx. as the Quality Control Supervisor. After Stroh’s Brewery closed, he went to work at Sadlers in Henderson, Tx where he worked for thirteen years as Quality Control Supervisor before retiring. On March 7, 1997, Ernie married the love of his life, Margaret Powell Younger. Ernie and Margaret enjoyed traveling in his earlier years before his illness. He loved his rescue dog, Steeler. Ernie had such an easy-going personality, a smile that lightened up any room and a sense of humor that made you laugh. Growing up Ernie loved playing all sports throughout his school years. Later he officiated his children’s basketball games as well as other basketball games throughout the East Tx area. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and watching all sports. Ernie and Margaret attended Moberly Baptist Church where they also enjoyed the small group class of Ed and Maggi Hulsey.
Ernie is preceded in death by his father, Earnest Harket Younger and his mother, Alice King Younger. His brothers, Joe Younger, Jimmy Younger, and Gene Younger.
Grieving his passing, yet celebrating his life is his beloved wife of 25 years, Margaret Younger, his children, Karen K Rilling (David), Steven Younger (Donella), Donna A Proctor (Jim), and Amanda K Soto (David). He was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ernie is also survived by his brother, Doyle Younger and sisters, Colleen Alexander, Anne King, Amanda Gooch, and several nieces and nephews. Ernie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
