Ernie Joe Shannon's Obituary
Ernie Joe Shannon, of Longview, TX, formerly of Dallas, TX. Passed away February 5, 2002 after a brief illness. He was born October 19, 1919 in Searcy, AR to Joseph Shannon and Mary Hodges and was raised in Wilmont, AR. He became a member of the Civil Conservation Corps after high school and enlisted in the Navy prior to World War II. A Fire Controlman on the USS Tennessee, he saw duty in the South Pacific. Honorably discharged from the military service, he was employed by Western Electric and later Southwestern Bell. He retired in 1987 with over 41 years of service. A longtime Choir member and Sunday School worker for First Baptist Church of Oak Cliff. A devoted husband, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Frances Brown, in 1998. A caring father, father-in-law and grandfather, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-laws Rebekah & Charles Eaddy of Austin, TX, Susannah & Lee Spivey of Longview, TX, and Johanna & Jeffrey Rudy of Austin, TX; granddaughters Julia Eaddy, Lauren Spivey, Hannah & Claire Rudy. He is survived by a sister Anna Mae Burgess of Monroe, LA, by in-laws, Thelma Shannon of Bastrop,LA, Ronald Kellam of Portland, ME, James and Shirley Brown of Palestine, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held Friday, February 8, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Longview,TX. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM in Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas, TX, with Dr. William White officiating both services.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson RD., Longview, TX, from 5:00 PM ? 7:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2002.
