Ernestine "Tina" Matteck Hunter Moore's Obituary
Ernestine “Tina” Matteck Hunter Moore, beloved Mother, Grandmother and
Great-Grandmother, passed away suddenly on December 23, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was born at the Matteck family home at 1009 Vance St, Taylor, Texas on February 10, 1930. She was the first of two daughters born to Andrew Ernest and Ethel Waggoner Matteck. She graduated from Taylor High School and Texas State College for Women, now Texas Women's University. She taught band and orchestra in Ft. Worth before moving with her husband and three children to Longview in 1957.
After her children were older, she began substitute teaching at Longview ISD and discovered she loved teaching Special Education. She returned to teaching full-time and obtained her Master's Degree in Special Education from East Texas State University. She taught Special Education for 25 years at Longview ISD until she retired in 1988.
“Mamaw Tina” loved working in her yard, gardening, going to the lake and most of all, spending time with her family. She was a long-time member of Alpine Presbyterian Church and played in the bell choir for many years. She was active well into her 80's and was thankful she lived to see her grandchildren grow up.
She will greatly missed by her children, Janice and Mike Mitchell, Scott and Claire Hunter and Bruce Hunter; grandchildren, Corrie Hunter, Luke Hunter, Clay Hunter and Katie and Aaron Amador; great-grandchildren, Cullen Nguyen and his parents, Gavin and Jeaneen Nguyen, Kingston Hunter, Elise and Roman Amador and baby Sola Amador to be born around Mamaw's birthday in February 2019.
Other survivors are her dear sister, Kaye McDonald and husband, Bruce of Alvin, TX; caregiver, Julia Bates; nephews, Mike McDonald and Kelly and Linda McDonald and their families and her two dachshunds, Biddy and Mikey.
Mamaw's life will be remembered at a family “Scattering of the Ashes Ceremony” in Taylor, TX this spring. No local services are scheduled. Memorials, if desired, may be made to any children's charities or pet rescues.
