Ernest Clifford Phillips Jr.'s Obituary
Ernest Phillips was born on June 14, 1931, in Jackson, Mississippi to Ernest Phillips and Eva Miller Phillips. He passed away at home on June 18, 2013.
Ernie was raised in Natchez, Mississippi and graduated from Natchez High School in 1949. From there he went to The University of Mississippi and graduated from Ole Miss in 1953. At that time, he served his country in the intelligence department of the United States Air Force. After he completed his tour of duty, he returned to Ole Miss and earned his Juris Doctor in 1960.
In about 1963, Ernie came to Longview and worked in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster and slowly became involved in real estate. In 1972, he founded Reliable Management Company. He was one of the founders of the Greater Longview Apartment Association and was active in both the Texas Apartment Association and the National Apartment Association. Ernie served on the committee that formed the resident/owner laws in the State of Texas.
Ernie is survived by his wife Linda, son Justin Hawkins and his wife Lauren, sons Paul and Clifford and daughters Anne and Nancy. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview on Friday at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. There will be a visitation prior to the service beginning at 12 noon.
