Erma Scott Putney
Erma Scott Putney was born August 8, 1918 and passed away in Longview, TX. Feb.4, 2009. She was the daughter of Raalph and Jessie Scott of Lisbon, wed Seth M. Putney July 22, 1941, Mother of Seth Robert PutneyBonnie of Galloway, NJ, Patricia B. Putney of San Francisco, CA. and Nancy J. RueCharles of Lognview, TX, She has 5 grandchildren Michael, Charles, and James Putney of NJ. and Charles Seth RueKaty, and Anna Kay Rue and one great grandchild Mason Seth Rue of Longview, TX.
Erm grew up amidst 4 brothers, Donald Edward, Raalph ELwin and Joseph who actively played baseball and baskeball and she had to be rough and tumble as the rest of them, and it was great when in 2006 she and her brothers were inducted into the Lisbon Central School Hall of Fame for having played on basketball championship teams in 1934-35 and 1935-36.
Erm had an uncanny ability for a raising fantastic vegetable garden which many residents of Lisbon enjoyed, as well as our family. She was addicted to road trips and spent many of her latter years on the road to such places as Dodge City, Santa Fe, San Francisco, Death Valley, and the California Coast line, her brothers in Florida, New Jersey and always her family and frends in upstate New York.
Erm liked to crochet, knit, snow-mobile, paint, wallpaper, garden and serve fresh vegetables every night and preserve those which she could not eat or share with her friends. She had a root cellar so full that it consumed the entire basemant of the house.
Over the years she received help from friends as well as Seth in the garden harvest and seeding. She and Seth spent a great deal of time with Nan in Texas these past few years and it seems that everyone in town knew of Erm. Nan and Chuck took such good care of Erm, she shall be eternally grateful.
A celebration of life service was held February 8, 2009 at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home in Ogdensburg, NY. Memorial contirbutions can be made to United Presbyterian Church, Lisbon, NY. 13658 or to First Presbyterian Church, Longview, TX.
We would like to thank Dr. Lynn Bourdon, Dr. Michael Leath, Texas Home Health Hospice, Longview Regional Medical Center, Whispering Pines Lodge and her many friends and relatives for all their kindnesses over the course of her life for helping our mother home.
