Emily Anne Smith's Obituary
A private graveside service for Emily Smith will be held at 10 am on Thursday at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family would like to visit with friends at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas on Wednesday from 5-7 pm. Emily went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 9, 2014 in Tyler surrounded by her family.
Emily was born on May 19, 1922 in Seguin, Texas to Julius and Rachel Kunkel. She was the youngest of 6 and the only daughter. Following her graduation from Seguin High school, she attended Southwest Texas University and Southwestern Baptist Seminary where she achieved a MRE degree. Emily worked as a public school teacher starting at the age of 19 until WWII when she worked in the Office of Censorship. Emily married the love of her life, Thomas Lester Smith, Jr., on Aug. 10, 1950 in Seguin, Texas. She also served as a Youth Director, and most importantly a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Rachel, as well as all 5 of her brothers and her husband, Thomas Smith, Jr. Those left to cherish the memories of Emily include her 3 children, Thomas L. Smith, III and his wife Susy, JoAnn Kucera, and Leesa Bryan with her husband Dwain; grandchildren Andrew Kucera, Jessica Kucera, Kurtis Kucera and his wife Franchesca Kucera Avellino-Tremain, Michael Smith and his wife Emily, Christie Parsons and her husband Joey, Adam Bryan and his wife Meghan, and Amy Long with her husband Jeffrey; great-grandchildren Bella and Jonathan Smith, London and Brooklyn Parsons, Aiden Long and Allison Bryan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
