Graveside services for Emily Tucker Hughes , 82, are scheduled for 4 PM Wednesday, October 16th at Memory Park Cemetery With Rev. Dan Miller officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Emily, formerly of Jacksonville, Texas, died peacefully in her sleep Monday night October 14th at Summer Meadows in Longview. She battled Parkinson?s disease for over five years yet still retained her smile and humor each day.
Emily Hughes was a member of the First Methodist Church of Longview, enjoying the frequent visits of her church members in her later years. Memorials may be given to the First Methodist Church Building Fund Furnishings Campaign, P.O. Box 707, Longview, 75606.
She was born in Marshall, Texas May 30, 1920 to Billie George and Clarence R. Tucker. Mr. Tucker was a Vice President of the Santa Fe Railway Co. and was Chairman of Longview Bank and Trust in the 1960?s.
Emily grew up in Texas where she married Lieutenant Eugene Barry Hughes in 1941. "Gene" was at Pearl Harbor during the December 7th attack and returned to Texas to raise their family in 1945. "Gene" died in 1955.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law Barry Tucker Hughes and Martha of Jacksonville; Dr. Billy George Hughes and Lou Anne of Longview; and David Eugene Hughes and Shirley of Dallas. Our beloved "Mem" had seven grandchildren and one great grandchild all of which she loved very much. These include Holly Hughes Varga of Jacksonville, Lindsey Hughes of Austin, Tucker Hughes of Austin, Hayley Hughess of Austin, Alex Hughes of Longview, Stanfield Hughes of Dallas and Travis Hughes of Dallas and Madeline Grace Varga of Jacksonville. She is also survived by her best friend and Caregiver Sylvia Bryant.
She was a loving mother who placed her family first. She supported her sons in every way, instilling values to guide their lives. She was loved and will be missed by her whole family.
