Elwyn Goolsby
A memorial graveside service for Elwyn Goolsby, 85, of Longview will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at White Cemetery with Dale Hendricks officiating. Mr. Goolsby was born on November 5, 1923 in Gilmer to O.B. and Myrtle Holloway Goolsby. He passed away on Saturday morning, December 13, 2008 in a Longview nursing facility. He was raised in Mt. Pleasant and was a 1941 Graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He attended Texas A&M University and joined the United Stated Navy when the war broke out. He was a member of the Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 509 in Amchiyka in the Aleution Islands off of the Alaskan Shore. He eventually was sent to Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX as a Naval V-12 Officer Candidate. He was discharged on July 21, 1941 and went to work for his father, O.B. Goolsby, until March of 1957. He then went to work for Lone Star Steel Co. where he remained until taking early retirement in 1986. Mr. Goolsby is survived by his sister, Johnnie Brogoitti of Longview; and two stepchildren, Ronnie Jennings of Mesquite, and Carolyn Brunston of Waxahachie.
