Elton Lavoy Hagler, Jr.'s Obituary
Heaven received another angel Friday night. Elton L. Hagler, Jr., 84, passed suddenly from this world through heaven’s doors Friday night, May 20, 2022. After having knee replacement surgery on Tuesday, he thought he was going to a Rehab to recuperate. He didn’t know he was getting a complete new body.
Elton was born April 28, 1938, in Gilmer, Texas to Elton and Florence Guest Hagler of the Sand Hill Community. He graduated from East Mountain High School and always attended their class reunions after the school was closed.
Elton was a Vietnam veteran. When he returned from service, he went to work for Fun Motors with Rollie & Mary Sims and helped bring the Honda franchise to Longview, A few years later another unheard of car franchise, Toyota, approached him about taking on Toyota cars. He joined Howard Spurgeon and Toyota of Longview was born. After Howard’s death, he built the new Toyota dealership on Loop 281 and became “the Toyota Giant” on TV and newspaper ads. He later sold out, and opened a used car lot on Judson Road until he discovered golf carts. Elton then opened Hagler Golf Carts on Judson Road and discovered all the many ways you can use a golf cart around your home. He retired around 3 years ago but Hagler Golf Cart is still in operation by his nephew, Wayne.
