Elsie Virginia Kattes' Obituary
Elsie Virginia "Jennie" Kattes, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, following a long illness. Funeral services for Jennie will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, November 29, 2010, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Interment will follow at Rosewood Mausoleum. The Reverend James Craver, longtime family friend and Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Allen, Texas, will officiate, assisted by Brother Ben Clayton, Pastor Emeritus at Fellowship Baptist Church in Longview. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2010, at the funeral home.
Jennie was born September 25, 1921, in Dallas, Texas, to William and Elsie Alford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five sisters: Edna Hopkins, Blanche Parrish, Mary Benedict, Dorothy Pritchett, and Hazel Shipp, as well as her granddaughter, Chelsea Annette Jones.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, JB Kattes; daughters and sons-in-law Janette and Sonny Auld of Longview and Susie and Sammy Jones of Grand Saline; grandchildren Lori Dixon, Lance Kattes, Brittany McSchooler, and Matthew Jones; great-grandchildren Jordan and Justin Dixon, Jara Brilee Kattes, and Chase Michael McSchooler; sister-in-law Mildred Kattes and brother-in-law Billy C. Benedict; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jennie was a homemaker and caregiver to children. She was a Nursery Coordinator and Sunday School teacher for four- and five-year olds for almost 40 years at Central Baptist Church. She was a current member of Fellowship Baptist Church and was loved by all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank caregivers from Margaret's House Beacon Hospice and Whispering Pines Lodge nursing home for their dedicated care of Jennie during her illness.
