Eloise Smith Powell's Obituary
A memorial service for Annice Eloise Lindsey Smith Powell ?Ma?, 97, longtime resident of Longview, will be held at 2 PM Friday, July 17, 2009 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview officiated by Michael Schutz. Eloise passed away on July 14, 2009.
Ms Powell was born on September 1, 1911 in Red River Parish to Edward and Elizabeth Smith Lindsey. Eloise was preceded in death by her husband?s Sydney George Smith and Clair Arthur Powell; parents and her five siblings: Willa Mae Teekell, Garland, Lamar, Mercer, and Ray Lindsey.
Ms Powell graduated in 1928 from Grand Cane High School in Red River Parish. She attended Hardin Simmons University and Mansfield Female College. Eloise was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ Scientist.
Ms Powell is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lindsey Smith Norwood and son-in-law Charles Norwood of Longview; three grandchildren, Lauri Norwood of Longview, Todd Norwood of Dallas and Brent Norwood and his wife Amy of Frisco; two great-grandchildren, Layton and Ansley Norwood; nieces Rosalyn O?Rear of Austin, Iris Smith of Dallas; sisters-in-law Jean Lindsey of Bossier City, Erlyne Lindsey of Dallas; cousins, Eldred Smith of Longview, Lois Kitchings of Coushatta, LA; stepgrandaughter Carolyn Russell of Longview.
A special thanks to the staff of Buckner Holly House where Eloise lived for the past 16 months and to LifeCare Hospice for their care in her final days. The family would also like to honor and recognize Carla Jones for her loving care.
