Eloise T. Christian's Obituary
Eloise Thompson Christian, 95, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2016, after a short illness. She was born on February 21, 1921, in Longstreet, Louisiana, to David and Helen Thompson. Eloise graduated as valedictorian of Vivan High School, Vivan, Louisiana, in 1937. She received her B.A. degree from Centenary College, Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1941. She was one of 10 Centenary students selected to Who’s Who Among Students of American Colleges for 1940-1941. Upon graduation she taught 6th grade in Pelican, Louisiana, for one year. Eloise married G. Murrel Christian on August 28, 1942. Murrel worked in the oil/gas industry and during their 55 years of marriage they lived in Vivan, Louisiana, Brownsville, Texas, Thibodaux, Louisiana, Corpus Christi, Texas, and finally retiring in Shreveport, Louisiana. Eloise had been a resident of Longview since 2005.
She was a long time member of the Longstreet Methodist Church. In her younger years she enjoyed playing bridge, doing needle point and cross stitch, cane pole fishing, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and traveling the U.S. She especially enjoyed going to the mountains in Colorado and New Mexico.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Murrel, brother David “Sonny Boy” Thompson, Jr., and sister Betty Sue Longshore. She is survived by her son Larry Christian and wife Cindi of Longview; son Michael Christian and wife Debbie of Conroe, Texas; granddaughter Shelley and husband Chip Schneider of Austin; grandson Clark Christian and wife Jenna of Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughter Katie Christian of Willis, Texas; great grandsons Jack Christian and Rhodes Christian of Nashville, Tennessee, and Jayden Martinez of Willis, Texas; and nephew David Longshore and wife Sandi of Forney, Texas.
Visitation will be at Rader Funeral Home in Longview on Friday, March 11, from 6-8 p.m. Graveside service will be at the Longstreet Memorial Cemetery, Longstreet, Louisiana, on Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or Caring & Sharing Ministry, 3221 Dundee Rd., Longview, Texas, 75604.
