Ellen Skislewicz Hendrix's Obituary
Ellen Skislewicz Hendrix of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 24, 2017.
She is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Dr. Joe M. Hendrix, and their three children: Marie H. Raines and her husband, Randy L. Raines, of Plano, Texas, Joseph A. Hendrix and his wife, Korinne F. Hendrix, of Wylie, Texas, Robert M. Hendrix and his wife, Mary M. Hendrix, of Austin, Texas, nine grandchildren: Brian C. Raines and his wife, Beth Raines, Kathryn M. Raines, Michael D. Raines, Robert H. Raines, Robert N. Hendrix and his wife, Lauren Hendrix, Sarah Emily Hendrix, Nathan C. Hendrix, Leah E. Hendrix and Andrew R. Hendrix, and five great-grandchildren: Finn Raines, Connor Raines, Lucian Hendrix, Madison Hendrix and Amelia Hendrix and nephew, Steve Spidell.
Ellen was born on October 6, 1932 in Coral Gables, Florida, to Sir Anton A. Skislewicz and Lady Eloise Knox Skislewicz. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Eloise Porter Knorr. Ellen graduated from The Kinkaid School, Houston, Texas and attended the University of Houston. She taught Spanish and French at The Trinity School of Texas.
Ellen’s proudest achievement was raising her three children, taking care of her parents in their later years, and being involved in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities.
She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and had a special place in her heart for Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview, Texas. Ellen was a faithful member of the Order of Daughters of the King for 40 years where she served several years as an officer.
Ellen was very proud of her heritage and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Magna Carta Dames.
Ellen had many wonderful care givers over the years, especially Sandra Bradley Morales, who was an Angel sent from heaven to provide excellent care and friendship for over 10 years.
Her family is thankful for a life well-lived. She was a devoted daughter, loving wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend.
