Elizabeth H. Whatley's Obituary
Elizabeth Hoggatt Whatley was born January 17, 1927 and died peacefully at home on April 5, 2016. Elizabeth, the daughter of a Borden’s milk manager, was born in Bristol, Oklahoma, and lived all over the South during her childhood, graduating from high school in Marshall, Texas. She traveled the world during her adult years with her family, met her best friend Teresa Baker through a shared love of English horseriding, hosted countless soirees at Lake Bob Sandlin and called Longview home for the past 22 years.
She is preceded in death by her only and most loved son, James Mason and her husband James Royce, her sister Nathalye Hoggatt Chastain and her parents Lottie May Fortner and Nathaniel Hoggatt, Jr.
She is survived in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Whatley Ogilvie and her husband Landon, and three great-granddaughters, Madeline James, Nanette Elizabeth and Laurel Elise, all of Longview.
Elizabeth leaves a legacy of philanthropy. Some of her greatest loves were the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Natchez Historic Foundation, Northeast Texas Community College, Trinity School of Texas, any and all animal shelters and countless other organizations in Houston, Pittsburg, Natchez and Longview.
The family would like to warmly thank the many people that helped to care for Elizabeth throughout the years, including Matt Clinnard, Kathryn Goldman and the entire Comfort Keepers family, Dr. Anil Singhal of Choice Home Health, Cristy Black and Hospice of East Texas, and Drs. Stephanie and Greg Payne.
Graveside services will be 10:30 am Saturday, April 9, 2016 in the mausoleum at Rosewood Park in Longview.
