Elizabeth Ann Walston's Obituary
Elizabeth Ann Walston was born to Reuben and Mildred Vanderslice on September 20, 1932, in Hallsville, Texas. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth, Texas in 1950. Ann attended Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas for three years and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954. She earned a Master of Science degree from East Texas State University in 1977 and obtained her Texas Teacher Certificate. Ann continued her education with post-Master's work at both East Texas State University of Stephen F. Austin State University.
Ann was a teacher and volleyball coach at Sweetwater High School from 1955 through 1966. She then moved to Hallsville, Texas and continued her teaching career at Hallsville ISD from 1966 through 1974. She then served as Director of Media and Public Relations at Hallsville ISD from 1974 through 1990.
Her many accomplishments include serving as President of Texas State Teachers Association in 1975; Director of Hallsville Chamber of Commerce 1976-1978 during which time she organized the first Miss Hallsville Contest; and President of Hallsville Chamber of Commerce 1978-1979. She was a member of the Professional Journalist of Longview for 6 years, serving as Vice President in 1982-1983 and President in 1984-1985.
After 33 years in public education, Ann retired and became Precept leader at First Baptist Church in Longview, Texas. While in retirement she enjoyed quilting crocheting, crafts and photography.
Ann is survived by her two children, Debora McKibbin and her spouse Dennis McKibbin, and Buddy Walston and his spouse Maureen Walston; two grandchildren, Melissa Dobbs and Dustin Walston; and one great-grandchild, Jayden Dobbs.
