Elizabeth McLendon McCutcheon's Obituary
Elizabeth McLendon McCutcheon
Elizabeth was born March 24, 1927, in Fulton County, Georgia (now Atlanta), to Jesse and Elizabeth Sartain McLendon, and she was translated to Heaven on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. She was the only girl, with 6 brothers who adored her. Her family never had many material riches, but were extremely proud people.
In grade school, she got to see Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable, who were in Atlanta for the premier of Gone with the Wind. She was a Fulton County High School Redbird, and continued to love cardinals all her life. Elizabeth attended the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia. She remained faithful to the Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. She entrusted the care of her letter from Hank Aaron to her son.
While working in the banking business in Atlanta, Elizabeth met her boss’s son, Ron McCutcheon. They were married in April of 1956. Elizabeth also worked for famous Atlantan, and Mayor, Charlie Brown, and has his autographed book to prove it.
Poo was active for years in the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was one of a dwindling group. She was a “Real Granddaughter”, as her grandfather, Jonathan, was in the Confederate Calvary.
Like everyone in her family, Elizabeth had a nickname. First, she was called Ela, then in the 1950’s, her young niece, Linda, called her “Poo”, and she remained Poo until her death.
After the death of her mother, Ron and Poo, along with 2 small children, moved to Longview, in 1967 where Ron had accepted a promotion. Poo worked for several years as a legal secretary at several Longview Law offices. Most importantly, Poo was a child of King Jesus. Her family has no doubts regarding her whereabouts.
An active genealogist for decades before the internet, Poo traveled to libraries far and wide, researching different branches of the family. She traced the McLendon Clan back to Scotland.
Poo was preceded in death by her parents and five older brothers, George, Jack, Frederick, Melburne, and James, all World War 2 veterans.
She is survived by her loving Ron, daughter, Lee McCutcheon, son, and adopted daughter, Ronald “Bubba”, and Andrea McCutcheon. She is also survived by her baby brother, Bobby McLendon, and a number of loving nieces and nephews. Her beloved grandchildren, Jonathan and Jordan McCutcheon also survive her.
