Eleanor Jean Cox's Obituary
Eleanor Jean Cox, 93 passed away Sunday April 14, 2024 in Denton TX. Services for Jean will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview.
Jean was born on June 6, 1930 in Wink, TX to William “Bud” Evers and Mary Evers. Jean grew up in Longview, TX where she graduated from Pine Tree High School and then went on to attend Kilgore College where she became a Kilgore Rangerette. She continued the legacy by becoming a Rangerette Forever, performing at the Macy’s Day Parade, The Rose Bowl and many others events.
On December 26, 1949 Jean married the love of her life Billy “Bill” Morris Cox whom she referred to as her “Billy Boy” and she was his “Jeanie Gal”. Their love story was one that she loved to tell and what a beautiful reunion they had when she was called to Heaven. Bill and Jean moved to Norman, OK for him to attend OU. While in Norman they also welcomed the birth of their son Butch. Bills career began with Gulf Oil which took them to Louisiana for 5 years and then on to Mississippi where they welcomed the birth of their daughter Cindy. Bill made a career change while in Mississippi and went to work for Penzoil in Houston, TX. When her children were older Jean went to work at Foley’s Department Store so she could spend most of her paycheck on shopping. They resided in Houston for 23 years until Bill’s retirement from Penzoil in 1982 at which time they moved back home to Longview.
After moving to Longview Jean purchased her mother’s popular dress boutique, Mary’s. She loved clothes and enjoyed sharing her fashion advice with all of her friend’s and customers.
Jean was a devout Christian her entire life and an active member of the Reel Road Church of Christ for over 30 years where she served in several aspects. She played many roles during her life and was so proud of the family she created, however it's safe to say that one of her favorites was being a Mamaw. Weekend and holiday trips to her house were known to include cousin sleepovers, McDonalds Ice cream, nail salon dates, and of course many shopping sprees. Once she had great-grandchildren the love of Mamaw continued on and she became their favorite playmate. The memories she has left behind for her family are some that we will cherish forever and we are at peace knowing she is now safely in the arms of Jesus. She was truly one of a kind.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents William Evers and Mary Evers, her husband Bill Cox, and her sister Patricia Bailey. Jean is survived by her children, son Butch and daughter-in-law Cherie Cox of Jersey Village, daughter Cindy and son-in-law Clark Craig of Sanger; grandchildren Bryan Cox and wife Kelly of Prosper, Lauren Burkett of Cypress, Mackenzie Salazar and husband Raul of Sanger, Tyler Cox and wife Ashton of Cypress; Katelyn Palmer and husband Nick of Sanger. Along with her precious great-grandchildren Kacie, Kendall, Caroline, Colton, Gracyn, Parker, Kate, and Beckett.
