Edwin "Skip" Whittle Jr.'s Obituary
Services for Edwin “Skip” Whittle, Jr. will be held Friday, June 23, 2017 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Whittle passed away on Friday, June 16, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Skip was born to Edwin Sr. and Vivian Whittle on October 23, 1952, in Chandler, AZ. Being raised in an Air Force family, Skip was well-traveled, and lived in several countries as a child. In 1970, he joined the United States Navy, where he served for 14 years. Upon completing his military service in 1984, he moved to Longview with his wife, Jacqueline, and family. He gained employment through the City of Longview as a water meter reader, and continued to work with the City for 30 years, eventually retiring in 2014, as the building official of Longview.
Mr. Whittle was a member of the Masonic Lodge Post 1396, the American Legion Post 232, and the Shriners International. He was an avid reader and fisherman, enjoyed playing his guitar, woodworking, and gardening, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandkids.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jacqueline; son Michael Whittle and wife, Amy of Hallsville; sons John Whittle and James Whittle of Longview; daughter, Sarah Clifton and her husband, Gary, of Gilmer; daughter Danielle Warren and her husband, Seth, of Longview; grandchildren Megan Clifton, Bonnie Clifton, Brodie Whittle and Kieran Warren; mother Vivian Whittle of Alexandria, LA; brother Jeff Whittle and wife Barbara, of Baton Rouge, LA; several nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
