Edwin Leo Feist
Edwin Leo Feist of Hallsville, Texas, died Thursday, September 23, 2010. He was born March 13, 1918, in Chaffee, Missouri, the son of William Henry Feist and Ida Walls Feist McGehee, and grew up in Flint, Michigan. Ed flew B-25 bombers in the Pacific during World War II, most notably when ?Captain Leo? landed a disabled, fully laden bomber on the Pacific Ocean, giving all members of the crew time to scramble to safety and lives of 60 more years. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He returned from the war to co-found Pemco Manufacturing in Kalamazoo, Michigan. His other adventures include a stint as a leading Class A speed boat racer and a Golden Gloves boxing champion. For over 40 years he has been a cattle rancher in Hallsville, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Aileen Liz Elizabeth Feist; daughters Dayna Jack, Deborah Freeman, Dawn Kelly John, and Lori Cameron Derek; grand-daughter Courtney Cameron; grandson Greg Freeman Christina; and many friends. He will be sorely missed.
The family will hold a private memorial at a time yet to be determined.
