Edwin Charles Mayeaux's Obituary
Edwin Charles Mayeaux, 85, a long-term resident of Longview, TX died on July 9, 2009 at Grace Living Center in Edmond, OK. He was born on May 23, 1924 in Campti, LA the son of Samuel and Bessie Taylor Mayeaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Jimmie Lou Richardson and four brothers: Jules, Ray, Sam and Irvin.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Judy Quinn, son in law Mike, granddaughter Elise Connor of Edmond, Ok and many nieces and nephews.
Ed enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and was stationed at Camp Fannin in Tyler where he met Jimmie Lou at an USO dance. After his discharge in 1945, Ed began an 18 year career with Delta Airlines serving as station manager in Longview, Hot Springs, Orlando and Shreveport. In 1963 he retired from Delta to form East Texas Management Consultants where he provided business management and tax services to small businesses throughout East Texas. He continued working well into his 80?s.
A true Cajun gentleman, Ed was an accomplished gumbo maker, storyteller and fisherman who enjoyed making homemade baits for his friends. He loved traveling the world with Jimmie Lou and doting on their daughter and granddaughter.
Ed was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years where he served as deacon, elder and trustee. He was active in the Lion?s Club including a term as president.
In 1993 Ed was honored to participate in an U. S. State Department sponsored entrepreneurship training program in Bucharest, Romania. Ed fulfilled a life-long goal in 1999 with the publication of his self-help book ?Success Is Only An Attitude?.
Visitation will be at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, from 5 to 7 PM Sunday, July 12. A private family graveside service at Rosewood Park Cemetery will precede a memorial service on Monday, July 13, at 10 AM at First Presbyterian Church, Longview, with Reverend Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Rader Funeral Home, Longview, in charge of arrangements.
