Edith Gillis Spears' Obituary
Edith Rose Gillis Spears, a devout Christian, took up her celestial residence December 29, 2023.
She was a devoted wife to her husband of 62 years, Rev. A D Spears, loving mother to her two daughters, Valinda Chargois and Adina Keating, an awesome mother-in-law to her two sons-in-law, Charles Chargois and Nathan Keating, and a proud and doting grandmother and great-grandmother to Twins Mallorie Chargois, Kaleigh Castle (Josh), Cas Chargois, Alec Keating (Taylor), Twins Macy and Paige Keating and three great-grandchildren Huck and Archer Castle, Shep Keating.
Her love for GOD showed through her love for her family, with whom she shared a truly wonderful bond. She lived a life that honored her father and mother, Rev. Arthur and Sis. Ellla Gillis, and shared a boundless love for her siblings, Buddy Gillis and Marcy Frazar, as well as her nieces and nephews and their families. Gaga, as she became known after her grandchildren arrived loved Thanksgiving and Christmas, and went out of her way to make everyone feel welcome and loved and included. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion and was always quick to celebrate and congratulate all she loved on momentous occasions.
The love of her life, however, was her husband of 62 years, whom she faithfully followed, to whom she was submitted and unwaveringly loyal, with whom she faithfully ministered. As a Pastor’s daughter, she made an outstanding Pastor’s wife, one who could be trusted to pray, leaned on for strength, counted on for wise counsel. Though he was most often in the spotlight, she was his shining light, and though she waited at times quietly in the wings, A D and Edith made a great team.
Services will be 6 PM on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Calvary Tabernacle with visitation with the family beginning at 4 pm. Private family burial will be on Tuesday at Rosewood Park.
