Edith Joyce Humphries' Obituary
Funeral services for Edith Joyce Humphries, 81, of Spring Hill will be held at 1 PM Friday, July 9, at Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jimmy Cantey officiating. Interment will follow in Elmira Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home, Longview. Mrs. Humphries passed away at home Wednesday, July 7, following a long, hard-fought illness.
Mrs. Humphries was born August 2, 1922 in the Crossroads Community in Rusk County Texas. Her family moved to the Spring Hill Community when she was 2 where she resided the rest of her life. She was a 1940 graduate of Longview High School and a 1944 graduate of Stephen F. Austin University. She taught in the public schools in Timpson and Spring Hill before becoming a stay at home mom and raising her family. Mrs. Humphries was a lifelong member of Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a faithful member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was very active in church, school, and community activities. In 1974, Mrs. Humphries was selected Homemaker of the Year by the Gregg County Home Demonstration Council. She loved being with her family, working in the garden, camping at the lake, and playing with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Humphries was preceded in death by her parents, R. K. and Myrtle, Johnson, husband: T. C. Humphries, and a Son: Thomas Wayne Humphries. Those left to cherish her memory are a son: Ronnie Humphries, son and daughter in law: Jeff and Lee Ann Humphries; sister: Arlene Tekell; grandchildren: Chad, Curt, Luke, Sarah and Katie Humphries, all of Longview, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of good friends and neighbors.
There are no words great enough to express the gratitude of the Humphries? family to the nurses and caregivers of Life Care Hospice. Their love and devotion helped make Mrs. Humphries last days as comfortable a possible. They will forever be in the prayers of the Humphries family.
The family asks that memorials be made to Project Elmira in care of the Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Longview or to Life Care Hospice.
