Eddie Modisett's Obituary
Services for Stewart Edward ?Eddie? Modisett will be held at 11 AM Friday, June 18, 2010, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Rev. Cary Modisett officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. Mr. Modisett passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 15, in a local hospital.
Eddie was born in Angelina County on August 15, 1934 to I.D. and Dorothy Modisett. He attended Pine Tree Schools and became Pine Tree High School?s first five-sport letterman as a Junior. He lettered in football, basketball, track, baseball and tennis. He graduated from Velma Elma High School in Oklahoma in 1953. After high school Eddie worked in the Automobile business and enlisted in the United States Navy shortly thereafter. He proudly served his country for 2 years aboard the USS Southerland and was honorably discharged in 1958.
After his years in the service, Eddie returned to Longview and began what continued as his career of 50 plus years as an automobile dealer. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter, being an active member of the Longview Hunting Club for over 20 years. He was a long-time supporter of the Longview Lobos Athletic program and regularly attended football and basketball games as well as track and swim meets. Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will always be remembered for his contagious laugh and optimistic outlook on life. He was a compassionate man who was always willing to help others.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill and a sister Priscilla. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Brenda Brashear Modisett; his sons, Mitchell Edwin Modisett, David Clark Modisett, and daughter Roslyn Carole Modisett; grandchildren Brittany, Travis and Michael Modisett; brothers and sisters-in-law, I.D. and Virginia Modisett of Keller, Texas, and David and Pat Modisett of Longview; mother-in-law, Gaynelle Brashear; brothers-in-law and their wives, Charlie and Becky Brashear, and Joe and Melanie Brashear, all of Longview; and several nieces and nephews; and his devoted Labrador, Tye.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Brashear, Joe Brashear, Mitchell Garlough, Travis Modisett, Brent Taylor, and T-Bone Woods. Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Gatlin, Rod Gatlin, Wendell Graves, Roger McCuller, Leroy Romines, and John Mack Smith.
