Ed Goolsby's Obituary
Edward Wilson Goolsby more affectionately known as Ed or Eddie, passed away from this life into the arms of Jesus on Monday, April 28, 2014.
He was born March 20, 1931 in Colbert, OK to Ed and Novelle Goolsby.
At the age of 7 after his parents had passed away, he and his brother, Tony age 5, were adopted by their sister and husband, Cherry and Herman Ross who also preceded him.
Eddie graduated from Longview High School in 1948.
In January, 1951 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1951 to 1954.  From July 1951 to July 1952 he served in the Korean Conflict on field artillery.  He was slated to return to Korea in July 1953 when the truce was signed.
Eddie had a beautiful bass voice and during his younger years sang in a gospel quartet at several church and civic functions.
He was a professional boxer in his younger years.
He was a brick mason by trade and a perfectionist in his work.  He worked at Lone Star Steel for 32 years and retired from there.
He was raised in the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Longview where he was active in all aspects of the church and sang in the choir.
He is survived by his wife, Janie; his children Michael, Vicki, Susan, and Kim.  Also his grandchildren Bronson, Tara, Michael, Brandon, Kimberly, Britany, Jarrett, Jessica and Joshua and seven great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother Tony Goolsby and his wife, Toppy and his sister, Marcia Ross, brother-in-law, Buddy Johnson and sister-in-law, Peggy Precise and a number of nephews and nieces.
Eddie was a very loving, caring person who loved his family very much.  He will be greatly missed by all of his family but we are secure in the knowledge that we will see him again and have a wonderful reunion in heaven for eternity.
Rader Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Graveside services will be held at Gum Springs Christian Church Cemetery on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 1 pm.
