Earl Hoffman's Obituary
Earl Hoffman Jr., went peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, January 8, 2016, surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nacogdoches, Texas with burial services following at Lakeview Cemetery in Longview, Texas at 2:00 p.m. Flowers may be sent to Rader Funeral Home, 800 Kilgore Drive

Earl was born on November 19, 1939 in Alexandria, Louisiana to Earl and Bessie Hampton Hoffman. He grew up in Longview, Texas and attended Longview High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 where he served as a hospital corpsman and surgical technician at the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in California. There he met and married the one and only love of his life, Patricia Browning Hoffman. They were married over 56 years until his death. There were two children, eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren born as a result of their marriage at the time of his death. He was a union forms setter, a fireman in the Longview, Texas Fire Department, a small business owner, and found his calling in life, returning to college after his two children were grown to pursue a degree in Agriculture. After graduating at age 50 with honors from Tyler Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University with a B.S. in Agriculture, he became the head of the Agriculture program at Mount Enterprise ISD. Earl and his Students garnered countless awards for their work and he reveled in their successes. In his work, he touched and changed the lives of many young people who will forever cherish their contact with Earl and his distinctive methods of teaching them about Agriculture and life with the unmistakable twinkle in his eyes that was uniquely Earl.
Earl was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nacogdoches, Texas serving as an Elder, Vice President, and President of the congregation in addition to serving on various church committees. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a pillar of strength for his family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and former students and will live on in their hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Bessie Hoffman, and brother Leonard Hoffman. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Patricia Browning Hoffman, his children Lloyd Earl Hoffman, and Melissa Ann Hoffman Bates, his sisters Gayle Hoffman Yocum, Marcella Hoffman Kaladic, Elizabeth Hoffman Pyle, and Wanda Hoffman Jones.
