Dr. Stephen Mark Stone's Obituary
Memorial services for Dr. Stephen Mark Stone, 61, of Longview, will be held Thursday, March 14, at 2:00 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview with Kevin Wittmayer and Jeanine Laurinec officiating. Dr. Stone died Saturday, March 9, at Beacon House of Longview. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Mark was born September 29, 1951 at Gregg Memorial Hospital to William and Evelyn Stone.
He graduated from Hallsville in 1970 and married Judy Carr Stone on June 10, 1972, at Greggton First Baptist Church.
Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Microbiology from North Texas State University in 1974. He and Judy then moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he proudly graduated from Creighton University in 1978 with a degree in Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Longview for the next 35 years.
Mark was proud of the years he taught a favorite group of kids in Sunday School and coached the Trinity Episcopal church kids' basketball teams. He also loved coaching his children in baseball and soccer.
Mark loved his cabin in Oklahoma, hunting dove with his sons, arguing sports with his niece, and traveling when forced. His times spent at the farm tending his cows and watching Judy garden were very special. Mark's love and devotion to his family were the hallmark of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father William Edson Stone, his brother Bill and wife Judy A. Stone, and his mother- and father –in- law, Russell and Ruby Carr.
He is survived by his mother Evelyn Stone of Longview, wife Judy Carr Stone, children Justin and Lindsey Stone of Tyler, Michael and Stacy Stone of Denton, and a wonderful grandson, Grayson Carr Stone of Tyler, sister D'Ann and husband Gillis Hammett of Forestburg, Texas, sisters-in-law Nancy Royce, Lee Ann Berry and Lera Scudday , and a whole group of very special nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Lee Ann Berry, Nancy Royce, Ed and Lauren Aguilar, Vicki Roush, and Lao and Belinda Aguilar, and the teachers, staff, and administration at Spring Hill Primary for all their help during Mark's illness. Thanks also to the wonderful staff at Beacon House Hospice, Longview Oncology and Good Shepherd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or Beacon House Hospice, both of Longview, Texas. Cremation arrangements where provided by LeRoy Rader Funeral Home.
