Dr. Joseph H. Rappeport's Obituary
Dr. Joseph Harvey Rappeport passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2005. He was born on October 7, 1922, in Shreveport, LA to Goldie and Eugene Rappeport and was the eldest brother to Myron Rappeport and Rozan Rappeport Zidell. Rapp, as he was called, served in the United States Navy during World War II, attended Tulane University and graduated from Tulane University Medical School in August 1945. He started his urology practice in Longview, Texas where he raised his families.He was a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Association of Genitourinary Surgeons, American Urologic Association AUA and the South Central Section of the AUA and the Texas Medical Association. Rapp also was a Mason and was twice elected president of Pinecrest Country Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and especially enjoyed bench rest shooting and traveling to Africa for big game hunting and for a photo safari with his family. During the last five years, he loved living at the family?s J&L Ranch in San Saba, Texas where he could relish his retirement with his beloved dog, Gracie.Rapp is survived by his wife, Jenny Rappeport, his daughter Jennifer Rappeport Allison and husband Ted, his sons Joe and Eugene Rappeport, his brother Myron Rappeport and sister Rozan Rappeport Zidell, among numerous other loving family and friends.The Rappeports would like to extend thanks to Dr. Jay Chastain, Dr. John Ferrell, Dr. Dan Jones, Dr. Charles Newkirk, Dr. David Sadler and the ICU staff and nurses who took such wonderful care of Joe during his stay at Good Shepherd. The family also offers gratitude to the Burgess, Johnsons, McHenry and Tinney families who have been so supportive and loving during Joe?s Doc?s years as the J&L Ranch Manager.A memorial service in Longview will be Friday, August 19, 2005 at 2 PM in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Father Kevin Wittmayer and Verger John Murphy officiating.
