Dr. John Heit's Obituary
Dr. John Heit is now deeply breathing the pure air of Heaven, laughing his great laugh with the joy of one who has lived a full and good life, positively touching more lives that can be counted. He died after a short illness and will be cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 22, at 2 PM in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, Reverend Jonathan Jehorek officiating, where his family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of this loving, kind, generous, and giving man. He shared his great intelligence, his time and resources with no hesitation and he loved Texas A & M as few others have. You didn't have to know John long to know he was the consummate Aggie.
John leaves his loving wife, Carol, the other half of a truly dynamic team, as well as four sons and two daughters, Dr. John Heit and his wife Laura, Dr. Jim Heit and his wife Evelee, Mr. Jerry Heit, Mr. Al Reyes, Mrs. Carol Hicks and her hsband James, Ms. Mary Lou Lubbers, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all of whom he was so proud. John leaves behind numerous friends in Gladewater, where he grew up, as well as many friends in Longview. All are searching for ways to cope with the loss of that tall smiling and cheerful man.
Dr. John Heit is a graduate of Gladewater High School, as well as Kilgore College, and his beloved Texas A & M. Always in pursuit of knowledge, John earned his Masters from SMU and his doctorate from University of Texas at Arlington. John worked for General Dynamics in Ft. Worth for 37 years, where he was instrumental in the development of many aircraft.
Carol and the family will continue administering the Esther Heit Foundation scholarships in John's memory. It has already assisted more than 200 young men and women in attaining something John held so precious - an education.
