Douglas Mitchel Sapp's Obituary
Douglas Mitchel Sapp, 82 of Longview went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 21, 2025 after a sudden fight with cancer. Born January, 1943 in Crestview Florida, he is survived by his spouse of 41 years Lanette, his daughters Sharon and Reagan; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
The Lord God blessed Doug with many spiritual gifts, including serving and encouraging, which he wove naturally and beautifully into his favorite pastime. He loved serving with the Judson Lion’s Club, Greater Longview Young Life, Buckner Children and Family Services, Camp Buckner, and the Fellowship of Christian Magicians. His life well lived, and his mission accomplished. He started making smiles way back in 1972 in Florida after being called to the ministry of laughter. His work as clown and magician went on for over fifty years including working as Ronald McDonald for a time and entertaining kids at openings for the restaurant franchise.
Happy T. Clown, his favorite alias, captured the essence of who he was. Doug loved the Lord, and he loved others. He put the first and second commandments into action in that his hobby was his mission field. His big red nose and even bigger red clown shoes stood out when he dressed up as Happy T. and talked to a child while twisting and turning a simple long balloon into whatever he knew that child wanted. Restaurants, festivals, birthday parties, church events, camps, community gatherings, and even traveling to other countries... wherever Doug Sapp was, he brought joy to those lucky enough to be in his presence. He just had that way about him. He blessed others by making each one feel special whether he was clowning around or just being himself.
Well done, good and faithful servant! May his legacy of love and laughter continue to inspire and bring smiles to others for years to come. A service honoring Doug’s life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview, Texas on Thursday, March 27th at noon. We invite you to share with us as we celebrate his life with joy in our hearts for the happiness he brought to us all.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Camp Buckner where Doug loved to serve several weeks a year with children and families. Checks can be mailed to Buckner 1014 S. High Street Longview, TX 75601. Please note on the check: Doug Sapp-Camp Buckner memorial.
