Douglas Lee Nettles' Obituary
LONGVIEW - Douglas Lee Nettles, 67, of Longview, Texas, and formerly of Brownfield, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. He was born February 16, 1949 in Brownfield to the late Eugene (Geter) and Vada Nettles.
Doug worked for GTE in Brownfield and was a long-time member of the Brownfield Church of Christ. He ran an automotive body shop shortly after moving to East Texas. He later founded a men's organization that was very dear to him called "Man For Man" in Longview that is still in existence today. His hobbies included studying the Bible, collecting sports memorabilia, writing poetry and music.
Survivors include his children; Scott (Golden) Nettles of Lubbock; Shelly (Shannon) Hunt of Midland; Jennifer (Rusty) Powell of Brownfield; Jason (Tabitha) Nettles of Austin; grandchildren: Zach Hunt, Cade Powell, Trent Nettles, Dustin Hunt, Allie Nettles, Emma Powell, Landree and Brynlee Nettles; brothers, Albert Lewis (Glennis) Sparkman and Carl Peterson; sisters, Billie Jo (Wendell) Knopfel and Ruth Reel. Doug is also survived by long-time companion Yvonne Anderson and her children, Angela (Michael) Reid of Gladewater and Lacey Anderson of Longview; her grandchildren, Hope (Stephen) Craig, Miranda, and Michaela Reid, Micah Anderson, Cobie and Macey Elliott; her great-grandson, Jackson Craig.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Georgia Finley and Virginia Sparkman; and brother, Carlton Nettles.
Visitation will be Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. A celebration service will be held at 11am Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Judson Community Baptist Church in Longview.
