Douglas W. Franklin's Obituary
Douglas Wayne Franklin, age 77, passed away peacefully on September the 6th surrounded by his loving family.
Doug was born on November 1st, 1944, to Una Mae Franklin and John Douglas Franklin in Wewoka, Oklahoma. After the family moved to Texas, Doug grew up in Hallsville and Longview and attended Longview High where he played football for his Longview Lobos. After graduating in 1963, Doug honorably served in the U.S. Army, spending time in Germany and numerous other duty stations. He received an Honorable Discharge. Doug was a proud U.S. Army veteran and served his country fearlessly and honorably. After completing his military service, Doug returned to Longview and began working for Eastman Chemical Company, where he remained for many years until his retirement. Doug loved football. He loved sports but he truly loved his Longview Lobos, UT Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed his weekly get togethers with his classmates and Texas Eastman family. His family and friends meant everything to him and he loved them all dearly.
Doug is preceeded in death by his mother Una Mae Franklin and father John Douglas Franklin, his brother Richard Dale Franklin, and sisters, Bernice Boland, DeAlta French, and Raye Dean Lansdale. Doug is survived by his children, son, Andrew Douglas Franklin and granddaughters, Lexi and Sophie Franklin, and a daughter Kristel Karen Grant and grandsons, Jacob Wood, Tyler Swain and grandaughters, Elizabeth and Morgan Hock. He is also survived by his sisters Shirley Whittington, Vi Baran, Janet Palmer and Deb Green and by 13 nieces and nephews that he loved and adored dearly. Doug left many friends behind on his journey home that were his rocks. He loved so many and so many loved him.
