Dorris C. Vick
Memorial Services for Dorris Clayton Vick, of Longview, widow of T. Newton Vick, will be held at the Chapel of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church on Monday November 17, 2003 at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Lynn Lindsey and the Rev. Mike Clayton will be officiating. The services will be followed by a reception in the church parlor for family and friends visitation
Mrs. Vick, 85, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at a Tyler hospital. She was the daughter of the late John Rowe and Pallie Elma Clayton of Magnolia, Arkansas.
Mrs. Vick received a B. S. degree in Home Economics from Texas State College fro Women and a Master?s degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark. Along with her other honors, she was the recipient of the Dr. John W. White award for her contributions in the field of education.
For most of her adult life, Mrs. Vick was involved in education through her employment as a Home Supervisor with the Farmer?s Home Administration in Clark and Miller counties; with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service; as Home Demonstration Agent in Pulaski and Lincoln Counties; and as District Farm and Home Development Agent for the Southwest District of Arkansas. At the time of her retirement, in 1981, she served as Program Leader for the Northeast, Southeast and Southwest Districts.
Prior to moving to Longview, Mrs. Vick was an active member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where she served in various positions in the Children and Adult Sunday School Departments, as President of the Butler Sunday School Class, as a member of the Energizers Choir and also as a member of the Board of Stewards. In Longview she was a member of the Centre Presbyterian Church and the Adult Sunday School Class and Women of the Church.
Mrs. Vick is survived by one sister, Betty Lucy and her husband Frank of Longview; two sisters-in-law, Lois E. Clayton, of Little Rock, Arkansas and Jean Scott of Shreveport, Louisiana; a number of nieces and nephews; and a large number of great-nieces and nephews.
Having no children of her own, all of the children of her larger family as well as those of her neighborhood and co-workers benefited greatly from her dedicated love and attention through the years.
She will be missed by all who had the privilege of enjoying her kindness and gentle disposition.
The family would like to extend a grateful appreciation for the loving care extended to her by numerous doctors and nurses and special thanks to her caregiver and nurse, Barbara Garcia.
