Dorothy Underwood's Obituary
Dorothy Jean Underwood, precious mom and friend, went to heaven on Tues., Dec. 10, 2013. She began her life on June 17, 1931, in Johnson County near Cleburne, TX. She and her family moved to Longview in the early 60s where she lived until moving to Hallsville in the 90s.
A faithful Christian, Dorothy was an active member of the Hallsville Church of Christ. Other than being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, one of her greatest joys in life was teaching small children about Jesus which she did for more than 50 years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by C. W. Underwood Jr, husband; Billy Walters, sister; Gary Paul Green, brother; and by Tanner Lee Underwood, beloved grandson.
Left behind to remember her and keep her legacy alive are her children: Donny Underwood, of Quitman, Tx; Lester Underwood and wife, Sue, of Plantarsville, Tx; Carol Kinsey and husband, Pat, of Longview; Garland Underwood and wife, Mary Ann, of White Oak, Tx; and Teresa Clark, of Denton, Tx. Her grandchildren, who all live in Texas, are: Brian Underwood of Longview; Gena Ross of Frisco; Leslie Maroni of Conroe; Allison Price of Mansfield; Kurt Ward of Hurst; Ashley Procell of Longview; and Scott Ward of Corinth. Dorothy had 12 “most” loved great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as, countless friends who loved her dearly.
Her family thanks the GSMC medical staff and Summer Meadows rehab staff who took such excellent care of her over the past few months. And, thanks everyone for all the prayers and love that surrounded her during this time.
Services for Dorothy will be held at Hallsville Church of Christ on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with interment to follow at Hallsville Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 12 between 6 and 8pm at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make memorials to organizations which aid others in need, i.e. Longview Community Ministries or the House of Hope or a charity of your choice. Dorothy would want her life to continue to touch the lives of others.
