Nell G. Tyl's Obituary
Dorothy Nell Gimlin Tyl, born May 30, 1934 in Hooks, TX, passed from this life on January 6 , 2014 at the age of 79, at her home in Gilmer, TX.
Nell’s family moved to Buchanan community of Texarkana, TX when she was in the first grade, and she lived there until March 2 1952, when she married Nelson Tyl. Nelson & Nell continued to live in the Buchanan community until the fall of 1968 when they moved to White Oak, TX due to Nell’s job with Avon Products transferring her to a new district. In 1999, after raising two sons and retiring from their careers, Nelson & Nell moved to Gilmer, TX.
Nell was devout Christian lady, raised in and very active in the Methodist church all her life. She first belonged to the Buchanan Methodist Church in Texarkana which was just a block from her childhood home. When they moved to White Oak, she joined the White Oak United Methodist Church and was very active there for many years until they moved to Gilmer, at which time she joined the Gilmer First United Methodist church where she remained an active member until her death.
Nell began a career with Avon Products in the fall of 1965 as a sales representative. In just over a year she was promoted by Avon to the position of District Manager and she remained in that position until her retirement in 1989.
For many years Nell was very active in the Square Dance community. Nell & Nelson took lessons and first began square dancing in the mid-1950s in Texarkana shortly after being married. After moving to White Oak, Nell & Nelson again became active in the local Square Dance community. They were members of the Flat Footers club of Kilgore and also the Lucky Squares club of Longview. They were later charter members of the Oil Patch Promenaders club of Kilgore. After they moved to Gilmer, they were instrumental in founding the Yam Jammers square dance club of Gilmer.
Nell was very dedicated to her family and always giving of herself and her time to her her husband of 61 years, her two sons, and to numerous nephews and nieces. Her love and support and influence upon these persons will be long lasting. After retirement Nell's main interest was spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow and develop.
Nell was preceded in death by her son Brent Tyl; mother & father, Dick & Med Gimlin; and sister Ruth Lumbley. She is survived by her husband, Nelson Tyl; son & daughter-in-law, Tim & Sissy Tyl; daughter-in-law, Frances Tyl; grandchildren Shannon Tyl, Wesley Tyl, Vincent Tyl and Shaynee Tyl. She is also survived by sister, Eddie Murray; brother & sister-in-law Jimmy & Betty Gimlin; brother-in-law, Arthur Lumbley
Visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, TX on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. Services will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview, TX on Thursday at 12:00. Graveside service and interment will follow later that afternoon at Chapelwood Cemetery in Texarkana, TX.
