Dorothy K. Mahaffey's Obituary
Dorothy Katherine Mahaffey, age 96 of Concord, Texas, a loving mother, devoted sister, and adored grandmother passed away on June 22, 2011 at 10:30am at ETMC in Henderson. She will be remembered fondly and missed everyday by her family.
The family will receive friends from 6~8pm Thursday June 23, 2011 at Rader Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday June 24, 2011 at Concord Presbyterian Church with Rev. Duane Dougherty officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Cemetery under the direction of the Rader Funeral Home of Henderson,
Dorothy Katherine Martin Mahaffey, daughter of the late Ned & Annie Martin was born January 9, 1915 in Concord. Dorothy, know as Dot by her co-workers worked as a nurse at Nan Travis Hospital in Jacksonville and at Overton Memorial Hospital for many years, and was a caregiver to many after retiring.
She was an independent spirit with a feisty personality. She never complained about anything. She loved a good game of 42, and anything from he garden especially sweet corn. There was nothing she liked better than a sweet watermelon. She was famous with friends for her egg pies and fresh peach cobbler. She was also known for her quilts that she hand stitched and for her unselfishness in sharing those quilts with so many that were special to her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Winfred Thurman Mahaffey; brothers Bud, Craig, Jabe, Snap, and Russell; sisters Sambo, Tootise, Marzelle, Lucy and Jewell all of whom she loved dearly.
Dorothy is survived by 2 sons Dewayne Mahaffey and wife Lillie of Henderson, and Charlie Mahaffey and wife Pat of Concord; brothers Hubert Martin and wife Opal of Good Springs, and Alvin Martin and wife Janice of Tatum. Grandchildren Phillip Mahaffey and wife Vickie of Henderson, Patti Mahaffey Mostyn and husband Craig of Henderson, and Kerry Mahaffey Messineo of Louisana. Great Granchildren Tori Mahaffey Anderson, Alex Mahaffey Tabor, Katie Mostyn Dame, Jake Mostyn, Chance Messineo and Molly Mostyn. Great great grandchildren, John Dalton Anderson, Aleiace Tabor, and Amelia Dame and a host of nieces and nephews, friends and family and church family. She was a faithful member of the Concord Presbyterian Church.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Mahaffey, Jake Mostyn, Chance Messineo, Dean Martin, Kenneth Martin, and Wayne Martin
Memorials may be made to the Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
