Dorothy Evelyn Jones' Obituary
Dorothy Evelyn Pool Jones was born to Thomas E. Pool and Claudie Belle Young Pool on December 8, 1926 in Rusk County. She went to be with the Lord on November 4, 2018 at the age of 91. She and the love of her life, Maurice D. Jones were married for 64 years before his home-going. Evelyn’s life could be summed up as a woman who loved and served God and others. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the age of 15. She trained and worked as a lab technician during WWII and then spent her time taking care of the family and many other people as well. Evelyn taught children in Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Hallsville for over 50 years. For many of those years she directed Vacation Bible School and worked with GAs. She was diligent and detailed in preparing lessons, visuals, activities and anything needed to teach children the gospel story. In addition to carefully managing a home and family, she loved gardening, canning, cooking and baking. She enjoyed sewing and crafts and became an avid reader. She exemplified the godly woman by word and example. Her children and those she taught gained invaluable spiritual and practical wisdom from time spent with her. She had a servant heart and was always helping with problem solving. She and her husband left a wonderful legacy to the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of knowing and loving God. As long as they were able, they spent time visiting the sick, taking fresh produce, fish, or home-cooked food to people, or doing whatever they could to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
She is survived by three children, daughter and son-in-law Jolene and Gary Morrison; son and daughter-in-law Stanley and Kim Jones; son and daughter-in-law Charlie and Bonnie Jones, all of Hallsville. Grandchildren and their spouses include Andy and Amber Morrison, Emily and Russell Baur, Julie and Joshua Williams, Ashley and Daniel Chambers, Nathan Jones and fiancée Shelby Thomas, Brian Jones, Ben and Emma Jones. Her six great-grandchildren include Roxy Morrison, Valery Morrison, Garrett Baur, Lydia Baur, Luke Chambers and Beau Chambers. She is also survived by her loving sister, Mildred Blalock of Longview, by a first cousin, Neal Young, a niece, Donna Blalock Turner, and three nephews: Tommy Pool, Bill Jones and Jerry Jones.
