Dorothy Jean Ulvog's Obituary
Services for Dorothy Jean Ulvog, 89, of Longview will be 2 PM Saturday, July 5, 2008 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Joey Mason officiating. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Mrs. Ulvog passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at her home. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 3, 2008 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born on August 28, 1918, on a farm near Ewing, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children born to John and Ernestine Iburg Christon, all of whom have preceded her in death. She graduated from the Ewing high school and taught in rural schools in the area.
She later graduated from the American Business School and was employed by the Bell Telephone Company in Omaha before taking a position as Secretary to the President of the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota.
On August 22, 1948, she married Carl Ulvog, who is a graduate of that school. They had three sons: Peter and his wife Terry of Longview, Texas; Danielle and his wife M'lilah of Buda, Texas; and Eric and his wife Kelly of Groton, South Dakota. A daughter, Randi Rabbers and her husband Ken of Carmel, Indiana.
Since 1948, she and Carl have lived in Midland, Texas, and in Roswell, Santa Fe and Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The past three years she and Carl have been living in Longview, Texas.
She was an excellent typist and secretary, holding many jobs that utilized her skills.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church and was active in church activities and Sunday School until her later years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Randi Rabbers, who passed away in 1993.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Carl; three sons, Peter, Danielle and Eric; son-in-law, Ken Rabbers; nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
