Dorothy Jo Richardson Hill's Obituary
“Absent from the body…present with the Lord.” – 2 Cor. 5:8
Dorothy Jo Richardson Hill departed this life and walked into her Heavenly Homecoming on August 11, 2014. What a blessing to imagine her shedding happy tears of gratitude, kissing the feet of her Savior. What a blessing to imagine the reunion with the love of her life and husband of 62 years, William L. ‘Bill’ Hill. What a blessing to think of the open arms and many kisses of her much loved parents, Walter and Edna Richardson, as they joyfully received her. What a blessing to picture her surrounded by special cousins and friends who have gone before. And what a blessing to imagine the excitement of her grandson, Ryan Hamilton, as he tells ‘Mimi’ how he’s been waiting, and as he insists on showing her around. Beautiful thoughts of a beautiful reunion. Beautiful promises and rewards for a life well-lived with Heaven as her primary goal.
Dorothy was born on August 26, 1930 in Longview, Texas and lived in Longview her entire life. She graduated from Abilene Christian College and taught school for 30 years. Although she worked outside the home, she was a wonderful homemaker. She was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother, always seeking the best interest of her “kids.” Amongst the children, grandchildren and their friends, she was “famous” for her marvelous cooking. Her French toast and chocolate chip cookies were often requested, and her 3-layer chocolate cake was a staple for each and every birthday. She always loved to sing and music was a big part of her life. Dorothy and Bill sang together often – for weddings, for funerals, at home, and in praise and worship of Jesus their King.
Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Rhonda Hamilton and her husband Ron, Resa Allen, Rhetta Collier and her husband Glenn; by her grandchildren, Will Wilkins and his wife Lisa, Randon Hamilton and his wife Ashley, Chris Wilkins, Trent Allen and his wife Katy, Ashley Vickery and her husband Travis, Alex Collier, Audrey Collier, and Aaron Collier; and by a host of great-grandchildren. She is also survived by dear friends Joe Allen, Martha Hill, Ralette Shinneman, and Gloria Crossland, who were loyal to the end, along with many other friends and close relatives.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Maricella for her many hours of love, care and devotion, to Aleisha with Heartsway Hospice for her always loving care, to caregiver Cheynice Lanier for her patience and dedication, and to caregiver Bridgette Noll, who lovingly attended and became a very special friend to Dorothy.
There will be a time of visitation 5:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2014 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Rosewood Park Mausoleum in Longview.
Memorials may be made to the Ryan Hamilton Memorial Baseball Field, c/o Rhonda Hamilton, P.O. Box 3112, Longview, TX 75606.
