Dorothy Lorene Philpot Elmore's Obituary
Dorothy Elmore, 98, passed away peacefully with loving family members at her side on the 23rd of October 2018.
A memorial service will be held at Rader Funeral Home Chapel on Judson Rd. in Longview Monday, October 29, 2018 at 10:00 am. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, October 28th at Rader Funeral Home from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Outreach Minister Rodney Cox and Pete Ulvog will be officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Gladewater Texas.
Dorothy was born February 1, 1920 in the Joy Community of Smith County Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents William E. Philpot and Kate A. (Bell) Philpot; brothers William H.Philpot; James L.Philpot; sisters; Lucille Smith; Alyene Davis and grandson Micah Nohl Elmore.
Dorothy and Leroy E. (Tex) Elmore were married April 1, 1939 in Gladewater Texas. They celebrated 61 loving years together before Leroy passed away in 2000.Dorothy always referred to Leroy as “the love of her life”.
She is survived by her sons Leroy E .Elmore Jr. - Eddie (Diane) of Lake Fork Texas, and Leslie H. Elmore.-Buck (Jana) of Lake Cherokee Texas; grandchildren; Lee Elmore (Gail) of Elgin Texas; Kristi VanUnnick (Chad) of Midlothian Texas; Trae Elmore (Nancy) of Gulfport Mississippi; Sheri Perkins of Longview Texas; Laurence Elmore of Ft.Worth Texas; Dack Elmore of Austin Texas; Thomas Elmore of Gueydan Louisiana; 12 great- grandchildren and 3great-great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law; nieces and nephews and a host of friends and extended family.
Dorothy attended Joy, Gladewater and Sabine schools, graduating in 1938. During her early years of marriage she was a stay at home mom and homemaker. She was “famous” for her chocolate pies and delicious southern cooking. She later was employed for 15 years as the Cafeteria Manager at Mozelle Johnston Elementary School. She was a life member of the Texas Parent Teacher Association and District VIII Director of Texas School Food Service Association. After her retirement she devoted endless hours enjoying her grandchildren as their beloved “Nanny” and “Grandma”.
Dorothy was a faithful member of the Alpine Church of Christ beginning her membership at the church’s first Longview location at Second and Whaley Street.
A special word of thanks is extended to the caring and professional staff at Hawkins Creek who went above and beyond in their care of Dorothy. We would also like to express our thanks to Hospice Plus who made her life more comfortable and gave support to our family in those last months and days.
