Dorothy Boyett's Obituary
Dorothy M. “Dot” Boyett, 90, of Longview died Thursday, December 3, 2015 at her other home with her daughter in Dripping Springs, TX.
Dorothy was born in St. Louis, MO October 29, 1925 to Charles C. Lake and Margaret Bronson Lake and spent her school years in Marshall, TX.
Dorothy was popular in school and participated in many activities. She met Bob Boyett while taking piano lessons and their piano duet immediately made a match that would last their lifetimes. They were married June 26, 1944 just prior to Bob’s leaving to fight in WWII, while Dorothy worked in the munitions plant close to Marshall until Bob returned.
Dorothy was the family support and organizer—she was always behind Bob in all his business and social activities; entertaining heads of companies; participating in Masonic and Shrine functions and their other church, social and philanthropic activities. Dorothy held many titles from musician to Worthy Matron and worked very hard supporting the Hallsville and Pine Tree Chapters of Eastern Star, and in Austin LOSNA #91 she used her love of fishing and her humor to create her clown name of Buckets to help support the Shrine hospitals. Dorothy made sure her children were always prepared for their many activities. She actively participated as chaperone on band trips, concession stand worker at football games, scorekeeper at baseball games; accompanied on piano many students, not just her own, at solo and ensemble music contests; made costumes and taught Sunday School. Dorothy volunteered at the First United Methodist Church for many years and loved working in the choir dept., and also led a Bible study for years. Dot and Bob stayed active and young at heart with the Dr. Pepper Bunch, a social group of young couples who said they had trouble keeping up with Dot and Bob.
When Bob retired they traveled with their beloved dogs exploring the country. Dorothy enjoyed cross stitching, photography, fishing, playing the piano, gardening, entertaining and being with her friends and family.
A dear friend sums up: Dorothy had a most wonderful sense of humor, a great perception of people, a great imagination and creativity, a most positive attitude and certainly a very special place in Heaven.
Survivors include her brother, Charles Lake and his wife Joyce; daughter, Nancy Cunningham; son, David Boyett and his wife Sandie; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and many loving friends including two special couples Doug and Jane Cox, and Mikeual and Laura Perritt. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob and son-in-law David Cunningham.
Graveside services will be noon Friday, December 11, 2015 in the mausoleum at Rosewood Park in Longview with Reverend Jerry Turner officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
Memorials may be made to the Eastern Star or Shiner’s Hospitals.
