Dorothea "Dottie" Hodges' Obituary
Dorothea “Dottie” Hodges, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister and friend, left this world peacefully on July 7, 2025, at the age of 98. She was born on May 22, 1927, in Marshall, Texas, to parents William G. and Ina Lee Pyland. She lived a life rich with love, adventure, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Residing in Longview, Texas, Dottie’s heart was a compass that led her on many beautiful journeys, including cherished fishing trips and travels alongside her late husband, John. The couple embraced the thrill of new experiences, reveling in the joy of discovery and making new friends together.
Dottie received an Associate’s Degree and worked many years as a trusted and dependable Secretary and Office Assistant. In her retirement years she devoted 27 years to volunteering at Longview Regional Medical Center, where her compassion and kindness touched countless lives. She understood the true essence of humanity and gave generously of her time and spirit. Dottie was also a proud member of the American Women’s Business Association. Above all, the love of her family was the brightest star in her sky, guiding her and filling her life with warmth and happiness.
Dottie is preceded in death by both her husbands, James W. Orendorff and John C. Hodges, grandson Mitchell Modisette, son-in-law Bruce Dedman, and sister Billie Sperier. She is survived by her sister Joyce A. Gunnells, her cherished daughters, Eileen Camp and Jan Farr and husband Randy. Also left to cherish her precious memories are her beloved grandchildren, Brian Camp and wife Susan, Shane Camp and wife Kimberly, Heather Allen and husband Lance, and Haley Farr (Caleb), great grandchildren; Kaylea Modisette, Brandi Surratt and husband Cody, Kaitlin Oney and husband Cevin, Caitlyn Camp (Rowdy), Ashley Casey and husband Chris, Trace Camp and wife Makaylah, Hallie Allen, Landon Allen, great great grandchildren; Hagen Surratt, Harrison Surratt, Cyle Oney, Case Oney, Olivia Casey, and Levi Casey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends. Together, they carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.
A celebration of Dottie’s remarkable life will take place on July 11, 2025. Visitation will start at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.
