Doris J. McQueen's Obituary
Doris McQueen, longtime business director for the Longview ISD and committed community member, passed from this life into the loving arms of her Savior on January 1, 2026. She was 95 years old. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on January 10 at Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 3800 Judson Rd, Longview.
Born in Marshall, Texas, to Alvey Lee and Cora McQueen on May 27,1930. Miss McQueen was the oldest of four sisters. She graduated from Longview High School in 1947, already a bookkeeper in the district’s business office. After forty-six years in that office, she retired as director of business services and financial consultant to the school boards. Doris McQueen Primary School was named for her in 1987, which she called “the honor of my lifetime.”
In addition to her work in the district, Miss McQueen served her community tirelessly. She was a charter member of the East Texas Professional Credit Union Board of Directors, Zonta Club of Longview, Greater East Texas United Way, Tall Pines Chapter of the American Businesswomen’s Association, and the Texas Association of Business Officials. A devout Christian, she served many years as an elder of Alpine Presbyterian Church. Among many honors, she was selected ABWA Businesswoman of the Year, Zonta Woman of Achievement, and Rotary Citizen of the Year. June 17, 1986, was named Doris McQueen Day by the Longview City Council. Miss McQueen was also named to Who’s Who Among American Women and as a Personality of the South. She was also one of the biggest Lobo Supporters.
Miss McQueen proudly declared her priorities to be God first, then family, then LISD. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Lorene Bruner and Janelle Cates. Survivors include her sister Nita Wiley, beloved son-in-law Dean Wiley and many devoted nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Longview ISD Foundation.
