Doris Ruth Burd's Obituary
Doris Ruth Gilmore Burd, age 93 of Henderson, TX, went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2019. Doris was born December 18, 1925 in Merkel, TX to Lloyd White Gilmore and Beulah Reidenbach Gilmore. During WWII, Doris worked at the Camp Barkley PX , near Abilene, TX, where she met and fell in love with a handsome soldier, Hugh William “Bill” Burd. They were married on January 16, 1945 in Henderson, TX. After Bill left the army, they returned to Henderson and Doris devoted her life to caring for Bill and raising their two children, Lloyd William Burd and Patricia Ruth Burd Hitt. Doris enjoyed sewing, painting, gardening, and she was an excellent cook. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was respected and loved by many.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Bill Burd; her parents; two brothers, Lloyd White Gilmore Jr. and Robert Irwin Gilmore; and one sister, Lucille Gilmore Williams. She is survived by her children, Lloyd William Burd of Henderson and his wife Toni, and Patricia Ruth Burd Hitt of Houston and her husband Lynn; grandchildren Bill Burd of Longview and his wife Shelli, Tracie Fabbiani of Longview and her husband Miguel, Harold Hitt of Denton and his wife Debbie, Amanda Rushing of Bastrop and her husband Michael; great grandchildren Cole Hitt, Brendon Burd, Zoie Taliaferro , and Niko Fabbiani; great-great grandchild Gracelynn Louise Hitt; sister Della Marie McBride of Tuscola; sister-in-law Margaret Haplin of Longview, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on May 25, from 9:00-10:00 am and funeral services on May 25, at 10:00 am.at Rader Funeral Home in Henderson. Interment to follow at Ebenezer Cemetery. Bro. Matt Gholson of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Henderson will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Billy Burd, Brendon Burd, Miguel Fabbiani, Harold Hitt, Tommy Simpson, Hagen Taliaferro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Ebenezer Baptist Church or Angel Care Hospice. The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the staff of Autumn Leaves Nursing Home and Angel Care Hospice for their excellent care and love they gave to Doris.
