Doris M. Barkley Ashcraft's Obituary
Graveside services for Doris M. Barkley Ashcraft, 93, of Longview, will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 18, 2017, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Dr. Rick Webb officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Doris passed away peacefully Wednesday evening in a local hospital.
Mrs. Ashcraft was born on May 17, 1924 in Hope, Arkansas to W.R. and Dora Kiekel. She attended public schools in Brownsville, Texas, moved to Tyler in her senior year and graduated from Tyler High School in 1939. She worked for Civil Service during WWII at Camp Fannin where she met and married the love of her life, Robert F. Barkley in 1945. She retired from the Texas Employment Commission after 33 years. She and her husband were long time members of First Christian Church and the Cornerstone Sunday Class in Longview.
Mrs. Ashcraft was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert F. Barkley in 1999, and George S. Ashcraft in 2009.
She is survived by her brother-in-law and wife, John and Carolyn Ashcraft of Prescott, AR; special nieces Beth Bryant of El Paso, Vivian Roland of Lake Cherokee, and Louise Kruse of Gladewater; and nephew Gregory Howell of Cassopolis, Michigan.
