Loved talking wrestling with this man. I remember my junior year when KLTV did a story on him and they asked me about him and I said “Coach Wayt??? Oh you’re talking about BIG DADDY!!!” This man was a true saint and was always there to talk whenever you needed. I worked at the prison he used to chaplain at, and the inmates who unfortunately where still there 4 years after his departure talked very highly of him and how they turned their lives around all because of him.
I can’t remember ever seeing Don frown, even after I tackled him, and he slid on wet grass into the practice field goal post, gashing his leg and sending him to the hospital. When I went up to see him and apologize, he was smiling and laughing. He and I worked the East Texas wrestling circuit for Leonard Clay, and I later worked as an assistant pipe-fitter for his dad. He had a gentle, sweet, beautiful soul. — Bobby Hawthorne

I am so sorry for your loss but we know he’s rejoicing in heaven. It was a joy knowing Don through junior high and high school. He “rang” my bell many times during football practice. He was such a good man
I remember most of all of how you could always depend on Don to be there if you needed him. He truly loved the Lord Yeshua with all his heart. In one of the most trying times of my life when Pastor Jim Kennedy pasted into the arms of Jesus, he was there to provide stability to our and his the leadership to keep us going. I remember him always as a true man I’d God and now he sees Yeshua as He is for he is like Him. Don didn’t die, he only shed that broken corruptible body for an incorruptible eternal body and walks with Jesus for evermore. Praise be to God for receiving Pastor Don Wayt into every lasting life. We love you Don and we will miss you, but we rejoice in the knowledge that you are at home at last.
